Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Hath there come unto thee the story of the Enveloping Event? 1 Some faces, that Day, will be humiliated, 2 be toiling and worn-out; 3 roasting at a scorching fire, 4 watered at a boiling fountain, 5 For them there will be no food except from a poisonous, thorny plant 6 unfattening, unappeasing hunger. 7 In that day other faces will be calm, 8 and pleased with the result of their deeds in the past. 9 in a sublime Garden, 10 where they will hear no idle talk, 11 Therein will be a running spring, 12 raised couches, 13 and goblets laid out, 14 And cushions lined up 15 and carpets outspread. 16 Do they not then ponder how the clouds were formed; 17 how the heavens are raised up high, 18 and on the mountains, how they are firmly set up, 19 and on the earth, how it is spread out? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 you are not their keeper. 22 But he who turns his back, and disbelieves, 23 Then Allah will punish him with the greatest punishment. 24 Lo! unto Us is their return 25 and verily, It is for Us to call them to account. 26
