Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
HAS THERE COME unto thee the tiding of the Overshadowing Event? 1 Some faces that Day shall be downcast with fear, 2 Toiling, weary, 3 roasting at a scorching fire, 4 Given water from the boiling spring to drink. 5 They shall have no food except bitter dry thorns 6 which gives no strength and neither stills hunger. 7 (Other) faces, that Day, will be joyful, 8 well-pleased with [the fruit of] their striving, 9 In a lofty garden, 10 where they will hear no idle talk. 11 There is a stream of running water in it; 12 Therein shall be couches elevated! 13 And goblets ready placed! 14 And cushions ranged 15 And linen spread out. 16 Do they not then ponder how the clouds were formed; 17 how heaven was lifted up, 18 And the hills, how they are set up? 19 And the earth – how it has been spread out? 20 So remind, [O Muhammad]; you are only a reminder. 21 You do not have full control over them. 22 But whoso is averse and disbelieveth, 23 Allah will punish them with the greatest punishment. 24 Lo! unto Us is their return 25 Ours is surely then to reckon with them. 26
