Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Has not there come to you the news of the overwhelming calamity? 1 Faces on that day humbled, 2 toiling [under burdens of sin,] worn out [by fear,] 3 They will [enter to] burn in an intensely hot Fire. 4 given to drink from a boiling spring. 5 no food for them except thorny plants 6 which neither sustains, nor satisfy hunger. 7 Many faces will be joyous on that day, 8 with their striving well-pleased, 9 In a Garden on high, 10 Never hearing idle talk. 11 Countless springs will flow therein, 12 Within it are couches raised high 13 Goblets set, 14 and cushions arrayed 15 and well spread carpets. 16 Do they not then ponder how the clouds were formed; 17 how heaven was lifted up, 18 how the mountains were hoisted, 19 And the earth, how it was spread out? 20 (Muhammad), preach; you are only a preacher. 21 Thou art not at all a warder over them. 22 But whosoever will turn back and disbelieve 23 So Allah will mete out to him the greatest punishment. 24 Indeed, to Us is their return. 25 And Ours their reckoning. 26
