Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Has not there come to you the news of the overwhelming calamity? 1 On that Day, there shall be downcast faces, 2 Working [hard] and exhausted. 3 (Yet) Going into the blazing fire. 4 watered at a boiling fountain, 5 no food for them except thorny plants 6 Which shall neither nourish nor avail against hunger. 7 [Other] faces, that Day, will show pleasure. 8 well-pleased with [the fruit of] their striving, 9 In a lofty Paradise. 10 Where they shall hear no (word) of vanity: 11 Countless springs will flow therein, 12 and raised couches, 13 And goblets set at hand 14 Cushions arranged, 15 And carpets spread around. 16 What, do they not reflect upon how the camel was created? 17 how heaven was lifted up, 18 And at the Mountains, how they are fixed firm?- 19 And at the earth - how it is spread out? 20 So, [O Prophet] exhort them: your task is only to exhort, 21 you are not their keeper. 22 But whoever turns back and denies the truth, 23 In which case he will be punished by God with the severest punishment. 24 For to Us will be their return; 25 Then, surely, it is for Us to call them to account. 26
