Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Have you heard the story of the overwhelming event (the Day of Judgment)? 1 Some faces, that Day, will be humiliated, 2 Labouring, wearied out, 3 roasting at a scorching Fire 4 Made to drink from a boiling spring. 5 They will have no food other than bitter and thorny fruit 6 Which will neither nourish nor avail against hunger. 7 [And] some faces will on that Day shine with bliss, 8 well pleased with their striving, 9 in a sublime Garden, 10 wherein thou wilt hear no empty talk. 11 A gushing fountain shall be there 12 raised couches, 13 and goblets set at hand, 14 And cushions set in a row, 15 And rich carpets (all) spread out. 16 Then do they not look at the camels - how they are created? 17 And the heaven, how it is reared aloft, 18 And the mountains – how they have been established? 19 and how the earth is spread out? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 You are not a dictator over them. 22 Except whoever turns away and disbelieves – 23 Him Allah shall torment with the greatest torment. 24 Verily, to Us will be their return; 25 Then, surely, it is for Us to call them to account. 26
