Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Has there come to you the narration of the overwhelming (i.e. the Day of Resurrection); 1 On that Day, there shall be downcast faces, 2 labouring, weary, 3 They shall roast into the scalding Fire, 4 Drinking from a boiling spring, 5 There is no food for them except thorns of fire. 6 Which neither give strength nor satisfy the hunger. 7 However, on that day the faces of other people will be happy. 8 Well-pleased with their endeavour, 9 in a garden sublime, 10 where they will hear no idle talk, 11 with a flowing spring, 12 Wherein are couches raised 13 and goblets set at hand, 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 And silken carpets spread. 16 Have they not looked at how the camel is created, 17 how the heavens are raised up high, 18 And the mountains – how they have been established? 19 and how the earth is spread out? 20 So, [O Prophet] exhort them: your task is only to exhort, 21 Thou art not at all a warder over them. 22 However, as for him who turns away, being bent on denying the truth, 23 God shall chastise him with the greatest chastisement. 24 Verily unto Us is their return. 25 then upon Us shall rest their reckoning. 26
