Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Has there reached you the report of the Overwhelming [event]? 1 Some faces will on that Day be downcast, 2 Labouring, wearied out, 3 They will enter in the hot blazing Fire, 4 Given water from the boiling spring to drink. 5 They will have no food except bitter thorn, 6 which gives no strength and neither stills hunger. 7 (Other) faces that Day will be joyful, 8 well pleased with the result of their striving, 9 in a sublime Garden, 10 They shall hear therein no vain discourse; 11 Therein will be a flowing spring, 12 Within it are couches raised high 13 And cups put in place 14 well-placed cushions, 15 and carpets outspread. 16 DO, THEN, they [who deny resurrection] never gaze at the clouds pregnant with water, [and observe] how they are created? 17 how the heavens are raised up high, 18 And at the mountains, how firmly they are reared? 19 and how the earth is spread out? 20 So, [O Prophet] exhort them: your task is only to exhort, 21 You do not have full control over them. 22 But whoever will turn away (from the Truth), 23 Then Allah will punish him with the greatest punishment. 24 To Us they will all return. 25 Then verily on Us is their reckoning. 26
