Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Hast thou received the story of the Enveloper? 1 On that Day faces shall be humbled, 2 labouring, toilworn, 3 They will [enter to] burn in an intensely hot Fire. 4 and will be made to drink from a fiercely boiling spring. 5 They shall have no food but of thorns, 6 unfattening, unappeasing hunger. 7 Faces on that day jocund, 8 Pleased with their striving,- 9 In a high Garden 10 wherein they will not hear any vain talk. 11 There is a stream of running water in it; 12 Within it are couches raised high 13 And drinking-cups ready placed, 14 and cushions arrayed 15 And rich carpets spread. 16 DO, THEN, they [who deny resurrection] never gaze at the clouds pregnant with water, [and observe] how they are created? 17 And the heaven – how it has been raised? 18 how the mountains are set firm, 19 And the earth – how it has been spread out? 20 Therefore remind, you are only a Reminder. 21 You are not a warden over them, 22 But whoso is averse and disbelieveth, 23 Allah will chastise him with the greatest chastisement. 24 for behold, unto Us will be their return, 25 Ours is surely then to reckon with them. 26
