Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the dawn, 1 And by oath of ten nights. 2 And the even and the odd, 3 And [by] the night when it passes, 4 Is there in this an oath for one endowed with understanding? 5 Have you not heard of how your Lord dealt with the tribe of 'Ad, 6 Who were very tall like lofty pillars, 7 whose like has never been created in any other land. 8 And with Thamud who carved rocks in the valley; 9 And with Firaun, who used to crucify. 10 Who (all) were rebellious (to Allah) in these lands, 11 And heaped therein mischief (on mischief). 12 Thy Lord unloosed on them a scourge of chastisement; 13 Indeed, your Lord is in observation. 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him and [thus] is generous to him and favors him, he says, "My Lord has honored me." 15 whereas, whenever He tries him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Sustainer has disgraced me!" 16 Nay, but ye (for your part) honour not the orphan 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the needy. 18 And ye devour heritages with devouring greed. 19 and you love wealth with an ardent love 20 No! When the earth has been leveled - pounded and crushed - 21 And comes your Lord, and angels row on row, 22 and when Hell is brought near that Day. On that Day will man understand, but of what avail will that understanding be? 23 He will say: "Ah! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my (Future) Life!" 24 None punisheth as He will punish on that day! 25 none shall bind as He binds. 26 [But to the righteous, God will say], "O soul at peace, 27 return unto thy Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing! 28 "Enter then among My votaries, 29 and enter My Paradise.” 30
