Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By oath of the (particular) dawn. 1 And by ten nights, 2 And by the even and the odd (of all the creations of Allah). 3 Consider the night as it runs its course! 4 There is indeed in them (the above oaths) sufficient proofs for men of understanding (and that, they should avoid all kinds of sins and disbeliefs, etc.)! 5 Seest thou not how thy Lord dealt with the 'Ad (people),- 6 Who were very tall like lofty pillars, 7 Like whom no one else was born in the cities. 8 And with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the vale, 9 And with Fir'awn, owner of the stakes 10 Who terrorised the region, 11 And multiplied iniquity therein? 12 So your Lord poured a scourge of punishment over them. 13 surely thy Lord is ever on the watch. 14 As for man - when his Lord proveth him and so honoureth him and is bounteous unto him, then he saith: 'my Lord hath honoured me, 15 However, when his Lord tests him by a measured amount of sustenance, he says, "God has disgraced me". 16 (Since wealth does not necessarily guarantee everlasting happiness) then why do you not show kindness to the orphans, 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And you readily devour the inheritance with greed. 19 And you harbour intense love for wealth. 20 No indeed! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 And thy Lord shall come and the angels, rank on rank. 22 On that day, hell will be brought closer and the human being will come to his senses, but this will be of no avail to him. 23 He will say: "Alas the woe! Would that I had sent ahead something in my life." 24 So on that day, no one punishes like He does! 25 and none can bind with bonds like His! 26 O you tranquil soul, 27 return unto thy Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing! 28 Enter thou among My bondmen! 29 "And enter you My Paradise!" 30
