Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the break of Day 1 and the ten nights! 2 And by the even and the odd, 3 and by the night when it moves on towards daybreak (reward and retribution in the next life is an absolute reality). 4 Considering all this - could there be, to anyone endowed with reason, a [more] solemn evidence of the truth? 5 (Muhammad), consider how your Lord dealt with the tribe of Ad, 6 Iram of the pillars, 7 The likes of whom had never been created in the land? 8 and with the Thamud, who cut out [huge] rocks in the valley, 9 And Pharaoh, of the pegs (impaling his victims)? 10 [It was they] who transgressed all bounds of equity all over their lands, 11 So they made great mischief therein? 12 so your Lord unleashed on them the scourge of punishment: 13 Your Lord is certainly in wait. 14 Now, as for man, when his Lord trieth him, giving him honour and gifts, then saith he, (puffed up), "My Lord hath honoured me." 15 but when He tests him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Lord has disgraced me." 16 But no; you do not treat the orphan honourably, 17 And urge not on the feeding of the poor. 18 and you devour the inheritance greedily, 19 and why do you have an excessive love of riches? 20 Most certainly – when the earth is smashed and blown to bits. 21 when your Lord comes down with the angels, rank upon rank, 22 and Hell is made to appear on that Day, then man will be mindful, but what will being mindful then avail him? 23 He will say: would that I had sent before for this life of mine! 24 So on that day, no one punishes like He does! 25 And no one shall bind with (anything like) His binding. 26 (It will be said to the pious): "O (you) the one in (complete) rest and satisfaction! 27 Return to your Lord well-pleased (with your blissful destination), well-pleasing (to your Lord). 28 Enter thou among My righteous bondmen! 29 "And enter you My Paradise!" 30
