Dawn (Al-Fajr)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the dawn, 1 And the ten nights, 2 by the odd and even (8th and 9th Dhil-hajj) 3 And [by] the night when it passes, 4 Is there in this an oath for one endowed with understanding? 5 Dost thou not consider how thy Lord dealt with (the tribe of) A'ad, 6 (The people of) Aram, possessors of lofty buildings, 7 the like of which was never created in the countries? 8 And with Thamud who carved rocks in the valley; 9 And the mighty Pharaoh 10 led rebellious lives, 11 spreading in them much corruption? 12 Therefore did thy Lord pour on them a scourge of diverse chastisements: 13 Verily thy Lord is in an ambuscade, 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him, then treats him with honor and makes him lead an easy life, he says: My Lord honors me. 15 But when He trieth him, restricting his subsistence for him, then saith he (in despair), "My Lord hath humiliated me!" 16 No! But you show no good to the orphan, 17 And urge not on the feeding of AlMiskin (the poor)! 18 Why do you take away the inheritance of others indiscriminately 19 And you love wealth with much love! 20 By no means! when the earth shall be ground with grinding, grinding, 21 And your Lord comes and (also) the angels in ranks, 22 and Gehenna (Hell) is brought near on that Day the human will remember, and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He will say: would that I had sent before for this life of mine! 24 Upon that day none shall chastise as He chastises, 25 And no one shall bind with (anything like) His binding. 26 Serene soul, 27 Return towards your Lord – you being pleased with Him, and He pleased with you! 28 enter, then, together with My [other true] servants 29 And come into My Paradise! 30
