Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the break of Day 1 and ten nights (of pilgrimage or the last ten days of Ramadan), 2 by the odd and even (8th and 9th Dhil-hajj) 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 Is there [not] in [all] that an oath [sufficient] for one of perception? 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with 'Aad - 6 With many-columned Iram, 7 The like of which was not built in the cities, 8 And [with] Thamud, who carved out the rocks in the valley? 9 and with Pharaoh of the [many] tent-poles? 10 Who terrorised the region, 11 and worked much corruption therein? 12 Thus, your Lord afflicted them with torment; 13 indeed, your Lord is ever watchful. 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him by exalting him and bestowing His bounties upon him, he says: “My Lord has exalted me.” 15 But when He tests him by restricting his provision, he says: 'My Lord has humiliated me' 16 No indeed, but you show no kindness to the orphan, 17 Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And you consume inheritance, devouring [it] altogether, 19 and love the riches, loving them ardently. 20 When the earth is crushed into small pieces 21 And your Lord comes with the angels in rows, 22 And hell is brought near that day; on that day man will remember, but how will the remembrance (then avail him)? 23 He will say: "Alas! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my life!" 24 So on that Day, none will punish as He will punish. 25 And no one shall bind with (anything like) His binding. 26 O you tranquil soul, 27 Return thou unto thy Sustainer, well-pleased [and] pleasing [Him]: 28 "Enter then among My votaries, 29 And enter into My garden. 30
