Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ I swear by this city -- 1 And you are free to live upon it, -- 2 and I swear by the parent and his offspring: 3 Verily We have created man into toil and struggle. 4 Does he, then, think that no one has power over him? 5 And he saith: I have destroyed vast wealth: 6 Does man think that no one saw him? 7 Did We not give him two eyes, 8 and a tongue, and a pair of lips, 9 And shown him the two ways (good and evil)? 10 But he hath not attempted the Ascent - 11 And what have you understood, what the valley is! 12 It is the freeing of a slave; 13 or giving food upon a day of hunger 14 to an orphan near of kin; 15 Or a needy person in misery 16 And then being among those who believed and advised one another to patience and advised one another to compassion. 17 Those are the companions of the right. 18 And those who disbelieve Our signs - they are the fellows of the lefthand. 19 who will be engulfed in the fire. 20
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
