Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ I swear by this city (Mecca) – 1 and you are dwelling in this city -- 2 And by the giver of birth, and whom he fathered, 3 Verily, We have created man into [a life of] pain, toil and trial. 4 Deemest he that none will overpower him? 5 saying, 'I have consumed wealth abundant'? 6 Does he think that none has observed him? 7 Have We not appointed to him two eyes, 8 And a tongue and a pair of lips? 9 And shown unto him the two highways? 10 But he has not broken through the difficult pass. 11 What could let you know what the height is! 12 It is the freeing of a slave; 13 Or the feeding on a day of hunger. 14 an orphaned relative 15 Or to the poor man lying in the dust. 16 and, then besides this, he be one of those who believed, and enjoined upon one another steadfastness and enjoined upon one another compassion. 17 Such are they that have attained to righteousness; 18 But those who disbelieve in Our verses, they are the Companions of the Left, 19 over them is a Fire covered down. 20
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
