Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ I swear by this city -- 1 And you are free to live upon it, -- 2 And by the giver of birth, and whom he fathered, 3 We have certainly created man into hardship. 4 What, does he think none has power over him, 5 He will say: 'I have destroyed a vast wealth' 6 Thinketh he that none beholdeth him? 7 Have We not appointed to him two eyes, 8 and a tongue, and a pair of lips, 9 And shown him the two ways (good and evil)? 10 But he has not attempted the ascent. 11 Ah, what will convey unto thee what the Ascent is! - 12 The freeing of a slave, 13 or the feeding, upon a day of [one's own] hunger, 14 To an orphan, having relationship, 15 Or to a Miskin (poor) afflicted with misery. 16 And to be of those who believe and exhort one another to perseverance and exhort one another to pity. 17 Those are the Companions of the Right. 18 But those who disbelieve in Our verses, they are the Companions of the Left, 19 Over them shall be Fire closing round. 20
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
