Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ No! I swear by this land, 1 And you are free to live upon it, -- 2 by the begetter, and that he begot, 3 We have certainly created man into hardship. 4 Does he think that none has power over him! 5 He says (boastfully): "I have wasted wealth in abundance!" 6 Thinketh he that none beholdeth him? 7 Have We not made for him a pair of eyes?- 8 And a tongue and a pair of lips? 9 And guide him to the parting of the mountain ways? 10 But he has not attempted the ascent. 11 What will explain to you what the ascent is? 12 It is the freeing of a slave; 13 or, in a day of famine, the feeding of 14 The orphan near in relationship, 15 Or a needy person in misery 16 And to be of those who believe and exhort one another to perseverance and exhort one another to pity. 17 Their place will be on the right hand. 18 But those who disbelieved in Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.), they are those on the Left Hand (the dwellers of Hell). 19 On them will be Fire vaulted over (all round). 20
