The Town (Al-Balad)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ Nay! I swear by this city 1 And thou shalt be allowed in yonder city 2 And by the begetter (i.e. Adam) and that which he begot (i.e. his progeny); 3 Certainly We have created man to be in distress. 4 Deemest he that none will overpower him? 5 He will say: 'I have destroyed a vast wealth' 6 Does he think that no one sees him? 7 Did We not grant him two eyes, 8 and a tongue and two lips? 9 And did We not guide him to the two elevated things? 10 But he did not venture to scale the difficult steep. 11 What could let you know what the height is! 12 [It is] the freeing of one's neck [from the burden of sin,] 13 Or feeding on a day of severe hunger 14 To an orphan, having relationship, 15 or to a needy person in distress; 16 Then he is of those who believe and charge one another to show patience, and charge one another to show compassion. 17 Those are the companions of the right. 18 And (as for) those who disbelieve in our communications, they are the people of the left hand. 19 On them will be Fire vaulted over (all round). 20
