Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Nay, I swear by this city - 1 and you are dwelling in this city -- 2 And by the giver of birth, and whom he fathered, 3 Verily We have created man into toil and hardship. 4 What, does he think none has power over him, 5 He says, "I have spent wealth in abundance." 6 What, does he think none has seen him? 7 Have We not made for him a pair of eyes? 8 a tongue, and two lips, 9 and guided him on the two paths (of good and evil)? 10 Yet he has not scaled the height. 11 And what do you know what that difficult steep is? 12 (It is) to free a slave, 13 Or giving food in a day of hunger (famine), 14 of an orphan near of kin, 15 Or of a homeless needy person! 16 And to be of those who believe, and urge upon one another to persevere, and urge upon each other to be kind. 17 These are the fellows of the righthand. 18 But those who disbelieved in Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.), they are those on the Left Hand (the dwellers of Hell). 19 Upon them shall be a Fire that will hem them in. 20
