Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ No, I swear by this country (Mecca), 1 And thou art a freeman of this City;- 2 And the begetter and that which he begat, 3 Verily We have created man into toil and struggle. 4 What, does he think none has power over him, 5 He says, "I have spent enormous wealth." 6 Does man think that no one saw him? 7 Did We not make two eyes for him? 8 And a tongue and two lips? 9 Have We not shown him the ways of good and evil? 10 Yet he has not assaulted the steep; 11 How will you comprehend what the Steep ascent is? -- 12 The freeing of a slave, 13 or the feeding in times of famine 14 to an orphaned relative 15 or to a needy person in distress; 16 And to be of those who believe and exhort one another to perseverance and exhort one another to pity. 17 Those who do so are the people of the right hand, 18 But they who disbelieved in Our signs - those are the companions of the left. 19 Upon them shall be a Fire that will hem them in. 20
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
