The Town (Al-Balad)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ Nay! I swear by this city 1 And thou shalt be allowed in yonder city 2 And [by] the father and that which was born [of him], 3 that We have created man into a life of toil and trial. 4 Does man think that no one will ever have power over him? 5 He shall say: I have wasted much wealth. 6 Does he think that no one has seen him? 7 Have We not made for him two eyes? 8 and a tongue and two lips? 9 and shown him the two highways [of good and evil]? 10 But he did not venture to scale the difficult steep. 11 Would that you knew what Aqaba is! 12 (It is) to free a slave, 13 Or to feed in times of famine 14 To an orphan, having relationship, 15 or to a needy person in distress; 16 Then will he be of those who believe, and enjoin patience, (constancy, and self-restraint), and enjoin deeds of kindness and compassion. 17 Those are the companions of the right. 18 But those who disbelieve in Our verses, they are the Companions of the Left, 19 Upon them is a fire, in which they are imprisoned, closed and shut above them. 20
