The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ I swear by this city (Mecca) 1 And you are free to live upon it, -- 2 or by the great father and his wonderful son (Abraham and Ishmael) 3 indeed, We created man in trouble. 4 Thinketh he, that none hath power over him? 5 He says, "I have spent enormous wealth." 6 What, does he think none has seen him? 7 Did We not grant him two eyes, 8 One tongue, and two lips, 9 And did We not guide him to the two elevated things? 10 Yet he has not assaulted the steep; 11 Would that you knew what Aqaba is! 12 (It is) to free a slave, 13 Or to feed in times of famine 14 An orphan of near relationship 15 Or the poor in distress; 16 Then he became of those who believed and enjoined on each other steadfastness and enjoined on each other compassion. 17 These are the People of the Right Hand. 18 But those who deny Our revelations are the people of the left hand: 19 who will be engulfed in the fire. 20
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
