The Town (Al-Balad)

20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)

In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful

۞ I swear by this city -- 1 – this city wherein you have been rendered violable– 2 and [I call to witness] parent and offspring: 3 We created the human in fatigue. 4 Does he think that never will anyone overcome him? 5 He boasts, "I have spent wealth abundant!" 6 Does he think that no one sees him? 7 Did We not assign unto him two eyes 8 One tongue, and two lips, 9 and shown him the two highways [of good and evil]? 10 Yet, he has not entered into Aqaba 11 and what shall teach thee what is the steep? 12 The freeing of a slave! 13 Or to feed in times of famine 14 to an orphan near of kin; 15 Or a poor man cleaving to the dust. 16 and being, withal, of those who have attained to faith, and who enjoin upon one another patience in adversity, and enjoin upon one another compassion. 17 Their place will be on the right hand. 18 And those who disbelieve in Our signs, they are the Companions of the Left Hand; 19 Over them shall be Fire closing round. 20

True are the words of God the Almighty.
