The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ I swear by this city (Mecca) 1 And thou art a freeman of this City;- 2 And by the begetter (i.e. Adam) and that which he begot (i.e. his progeny); 3 Certainly We have created man to be in distress. 4 Thinketh he, that none hath power over him? 5 And he saith: I have destroyed vast wealth: 6 Deemest he that none beholdeth him? 7 Did We not give him two eyes, 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 And shown unto him the two highways? 10 But he has not attempted the ascent. 11 And what will make you comprehend what the uphill road is? 12 It is the freeing of a slave 13 or the feeding in times of famine 14 An orphan near of kin, 15 Or to the indigent (down) in the dust. 16 And to be of those who believe and exhort one another to perseverance and exhort one another to pity. 17 These are the People of the Right Hand. 18 And (as for) those who disbelieve in our communications, they are the people of the left hand. 19 with the Fire closed above them. 20
God the Almighty always says the truth.
