The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I CALL TO witness the sun and his early morning splendour, 1 By the Moon as she follows him; 2 The day when it reveals his radiance, 3 and by the night as it envelopes the sun; 4 And the heaven and Him Who built it, 5 and by the earth and That which extended it! 6 And [by] the soul and He who proportioned it 7 Then He showed him what is wrong for him and what is right for him; 8 Surely blissful is he who hath cleansed it, 9 And he fails that corrupts it! 10 The Thamud tribe rejected the truth because of their arrogance, 11 when the most corrupt of them incited them (to commit evil). 12 So the Noble Messenger of Allah said to them, “Stay away from the she camel of Allah, and from its turn to drink.” 13 But they denied him, and they hamstrung her, so Allah doomed them for their sin and rased (their dwellings). 14 He dreadeth not the sequel (of events). 15
