The Sun (Al-Shams)
15 verses, revealed in Mecca after Destiny (Al-Qadr) before The Galaxies (Al-Burooj)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the sun and his morning brightness 1 and the moon as it reflects the sun! 2 And the day when it shows it, 3 And the night when it enshroudeth him, 4 By the heaven and That which built it 5 by the earth and that (Power) which spread it out 6 And a soul and Him Who perfected it 7 and inspired it with knowledge of evil and piety, 8 He is indeed successful who causeth it to grow, 9 And he has failed who instills it [with corruption]. 10 (The tribe of) Thamud denied (the truth) in their rebellious pride, 11 When the most wicked among them stood up in defiance. 12 the Messenger of Allah said to them: '(This is) the shecamel of Allah, let her drink' 13 However, they rejected him and slew her. So their Lord completely destroyed them and their city for their sins. 14 He does not fear the consequence. 15
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
