The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the Sun and his (glorious) splendour; 1 And by oath of the moon when it follows the sun 2 and by the day when it displays him 3 and by the night when it draws a veil over it, 4 And the heaven and Him Who built it, 5 And by the earth and Him Who spread it, 6 And the soul and Him Who made it perfect, 7 and inspired it to lewdness and godfearing! 8 Prosperous is he who purifies it, 9 And he has failed who instills it [with corruption]. 10 Samood gave the lie (to the truth) in their inordinacy, 11 When among them the great wretch arose, 12 although God's apostle had told them, "It is a she-camel belonging to God, so let her drink [and do her no harm]!" 13 However, they rejected him and slew her. So their Lord completely destroyed them and their city for their sins. 14 And He does not fear the consequence thereof. 15
