The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the Sun and his (glorious) splendour; 1 and by the moon as it follows it; 2 And the day when it revealeth him, 3 By the Night as it conceals it; 4 And by oath of the heaven and by oath of Him Who made it. 5 and by the earth and That which extended it! 6 and by the soul and that (Power) which designed it 7 and inspired it to lewdness and godfearing! 8 He who purifies it will indeed be successful, 9 And he is indeed a failure who stunteth it. 10 In their presumptuous insolence the Thamud called the Truth a lie 11 when the most wicked of them broke forth, 12 And the messenger of Allah said: It is the she-camel of Allah, so let her drink! 13 But they called him a liar and slaughtered her, therefore their Lord crushed them for their sin and levelled them (with the ground). 14 He dreadeth not the sequel (of events). 15
