The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
CONSIDER the night as it veils [the earth] in darkness, 1 and the day in splendour 2 And the creating of the male and the female, 3 Indeed your efforts differ. 4 For him that gives and fears (Allah) 5 And affirms goodness, 6 So We will very soon provide him ease. 7 But he who does not give and is unconcerned, 8 and calls the ultimate good a lie 9 We will make smooth for him the path for evil; 10 And what will his wealth avail him when he falls? 11 Surely it is for Us to show the Right Way, 12 and to Us belong the Next Life and the present. 13 Therefore I warn you of the fire that flames: 14 None shall enter it save the most wretched, 15 Who had denied and turned away. 16 But the God-fearing shall be kept away from it, 17 Who giveth away his substance that he may be cleansed, 18 not as payment for any favours that he received, 19 only seeking the Face of his Lord the Most High; 20 and such, indeed, shall in time be well-pleased. 21
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
