The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the night as it veils [the earth] in darkness, 1 and the day as it rises bright! 2 By (the mystery of) the creation of male and female;- 3 Your striving is most surely (directed to) various (ends). 4 As for him who gives (in charity) and keeps his duty to Allah and fears Him, 5 and confirms the reward most fair, 6 We shall ease the way of fortune for him. 7 But as for he who withholds and considers himself free of need 8 And denies the best [reward], 9 We shall facilitate the path to affliction 10 and his wealth shall be of no avail to him when he perishes. 11 Indeed guiding is upon Us. 12 and to Us belongs the Hereafter as well as the present world -- 13 I have warned you about the fierce blazing fire 14 None shall enter it save the most wretched, 15 Who denied (the truth) and turned away. 16 And Al-Muttaqun (the pious and righteous - see V. 2:2) will be far removed from it (Hell). 17 one who gives his wealth to become purified, 18 And not [giving] for anyone who has [done him] a favor to be rewarded 19 but only to seek the good pleasure of his Lord Most High. 20 and he shall surely be satisfied. 21
