The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
CONSIDER the night as it veils [the earth] in darkness, 1 and by the day when it unveils. 2 And the creating of the male and the female, 3 O men, you truly strive towards the most diverse ends! 4 Then as for him who giveths and feareth Him. 5 and confirms the reward most fair, 6 We shall facilitate for him the Way to Bliss. 7 And for him who hoarded wealth and remained carefree, 8 And disbelieveth in goodness; 9 So We will very soon provide him hardship. 10 His wealth will not avail him when he falls into ruin. 11 Surely, in Our hands is guidance, 12 And indeed, to Us belongs the Hereafter and the first [life]. 13 I have warned you then about a raging Fire: 14 None shall enter it save the most wretched, 15 Who belieth and turneth away. 16 and from which the cautious shall be distanced. 17 He who gives his wealth to be purified, 18 And is under no one's obligation to return his favour, 19 except the pleasure of their Lord, the Most High 20 And he shall soon be well-pleased. 21
