The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
I CALL THE night to witness when it covers over, 1 By the Day as it appears in glory; 2 By (the mystery of) the creation of male and female;- 3 your striving is indeed to different ends! 4 As for him who gives and is godfearing 5 And affirms goodness, 6 We will facilitate for him the easy end. 7 but for him that is a miser, and sufficed, 8 And rejects goodness, 9 We will make smooth for him the path for evil; 10 And his substance will avail him not when he perisheth. 11 Surely upon Us rests the guidance, 12 And verify Ours is both the Hereafter and the life present. 13 Therefore I have warned you of a Fire blazing fiercely (Hell); 14 None shall enter it but the most unhappy, 15 Who give the lie to Truth and turn their backs. 16 Far removed from it will be the righteous 17 And gives of his wealth that he may grow in virtue, 18 And none hath with him any favour for reward, 19 But only the desire to seek for the Countenance of their Lord Most High; 20 And he is going to be satisfied. 21
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
