The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the Night as it conceals (the light); 1 By the Day as it appears in glory; 2 and by the creation of the male and the female. 3 surely your striving is to diverse ends. 4 Then as for him who giveths and feareth Him. 5 And accepts the best, 6 for him shall We make easy the path towards [ultimate] ease. 7 As for him who was a miser and behaved with aversion (to Allah), 8 and cries lies to the reward most fair, 9 We shall surely ease for him the Path of Hardship (the Fire). 10 and their wealth will be of no benefit to them when they face destruction. 11 Indeed, Guidance is Ours, 12 And indeed the Hereafter and this world both belong to Us. 13 I have now warned you of a Blazing Fire, 14 in which none shall be roasted except the most wretched sinner, 15 The one who denied and turned away. 16 Far removed from it will be the righteous 17 Who giveth away his substance that he may be cleansed, 18 not as payment for any favours that he received, 19 but only out of a longing for the countenance of his Sustainer, the All-Highest: 20 Will surely be gratified. 21
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
