The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Recite thou in the name of thy Lord Who hath created 1 created Man of a blood-clot. 2 Read, and your Lord only is the Most Beneficent, 3 Who taught (to write) with the pen 4 taught man what he did not know. 5 Nay, verily, man becomes grossly overweening 6 Because he sees himself free from want. 7 Surely to your Lord is the return. 8 Seest thou one who forbids- 9 a worshipper from praying? 10 Hast thou considered whether he is on the right way, 11 Or enjoins piety? 12 Do you see how he has denied the truth and turned away from it? 13 Does he not realize that God sees him? 14 Let him know that if he does not desist, We shall certainly drag him by his forelocks, 15 By the lying, the sinful forelock. 16 Let him call on his associates for help 17 We too would summon the braves of the army. 18 Nay, heed him not: But bow down in adoration, and bring thyself the closer (to Allah)! ۩ 19
Allah the Almighty always says the truth.
