The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Recite: In the Name of thy Lord who created, 1 created man out of a germ-cell 2 Recite: And thy Lord is the Most Generous, 3 The One Who taught to write with the pen. 4 Taught man what he did not know. 5 Nay! man is most surely inordinate, 6 whenever he believes himself to be self-sufficient: 7 Surely! Unto your Lord is the return. 8 Hast thou seen him who dissuadeth 9 A slave when he prayeth? 10 Have you seen if he was upon guidance 11 Or enjoineth piety? 12 Tell me if he (the disbeliever, Abu Jahl) denies (the truth, i.e. this Quran), and turns away? 13 Knoweth he not that Allah doth see? 14 Let him beware! If he desist not, We will drag him by the forelock,- 15 By the lying, the sinful forelock. 16 and then let him summon [to his aid] the counsels of his own [spurious] wisdom, 17 We too shall summon the guards of Hell. 18 No indeed! Do not obey him, but prostrate yourself and come closer to God. ۩ 19
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
