The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Read! In the name of your Lord, who created: 1 He created man from a clot. 2 Read and your Lord is Most Honorable, 3 Who taught by the pen, 4 taught man what he did not know! 5 And yet, but yet man is rebellious, 6 Because he sees himself self-sufficient. 7 Surely! Unto your Lord is the return. 8 Did you see him who forbids 9 A votary when he turns to his devotions? 10 Bethinkest thou, if he is himself guided, 11 He would enjoin piety, so how good it would be! 12 What is your opinion if he denies and turns away, how wretched will be his state! 13 Is he then unaware that Allah seeth? 14 No indeed; surely, if he gives not over, We shall seize him by the forelock, 15 By the lying, the sinful forelock. 16 So, let him call upon his way! 17 We shall call the guards of Hell. 18 Beware! Do not obey him, but bow in adoration and draw near (to your Lord). ۩ 19
Allah the Almighty always says the truth.
