The elders of Pharaoh's people said: 'Surely this man is a skilful magician 109 Who would expel you from your land. Now what do ye advise? 110 They answered: "Let him and his brother wait awhile, and send unto all cities heralds 111 to bring together at the Pharaohs court all the skillful magicians. 112 And the magicians came to Pharaoh and asked, "Shall we have a reward, if we should prevail?" 113 He said, 'Yes, indeed; and you shall be among the near-stationed.' 114 Then they said: 'O Moses, will you [first] throw your rod, or shall we throw?' 115 He answered: "You throw [first]." And when they threw down [their staffs,] they cast a spell upon the people's eyes, and struck them with awe, and produced mighty sorcery. 116 We said to Moses: "Throw down your staff;" and it swallowed up their conjurations in no time. 117 ۞ So the truth was proved and their works were disproved. 118 So the (great ones) were vanquished there and then, and were made to look small. 119 and the magicians flung themselves prostrate, 120 and said, "We believe in the Lord of the Universe, 121 "The Lord of Moses and Aaron." 122 Said Pharaoh: "Believe ye in Him before I give you permission? Surely this is a trick which ye have planned in the city to drive out its people: but soon shall ye know (the consequences). 123 "Surely, I will cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, then I will crucify you all." 124 The magicians said, "We will certainly return to Our Lord. 125 And what is it for which thou takest vengeance on us save that we have believed in the signs of our Lord when they came unto us? Our Lord! pour out upon us perseverance and cause us to die as Muslims. 126
