The elders of Pharaoh's people said: 'Surely this man is a skilful magician 109 who wants to drive you out of your land! " [Said Pharaoh:] "What, then, do you advise?" 110 They said: "Keep him and his brother in suspense (for a while); and send to the cities men to collect- 111 to bring thee every cunning sorcerer.' 112 And the enchanters came to Firon (and) said: We must surely have a reward if we are the prevailing ones. 113 He answered: Yes, and surely ye shall be of those brought near (to me). 114 So they said: "O Moses, you may cast your spell first, or we shall cast ours." 115 He said, 'You cast.' And when they cast they put a Spell upon the people's eyes, and called forth fear of them, and produced a mighty sorcery. 116 And [then] We inspired Moses, "Throw down thy staff!" - and lo! it swallowed up all their deceptions: 117 ۞ So, the truth prevailed and what they were doing was annulled; 118 Thus they were vanquished there, and they went back abased. 119 And the magicians were obliged to fall prostrate. 120 They said: we believe in the Lord of the worlds. 121 the Lord of Moses and Aaron.' 122 Said Pharaoh: "Believe ye in Him before I give you permission? Surely this is a trick which ye have planned in the city to drive out its people: but soon shall ye know (the consequences). 123 I will surely cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides; then I will surely crucify you all." 124 They said: "Verily, we are returning to our Lord. 125 "The only reason you have to hate us is that we believed in the signs of our Lord as they came to us. O our Lord, give us sufficient endurance that we may die submitting (to You)." 126
