Said the chieftains of Firaun’s people, “He is really an expert magician.” 109 He would drive you forth from your land; so what is it that ye enjoin? 110 They said, "Let him and his brother wait awhile, and send into the cities summoners, 111 who shall bring before thee every sorcerer of great knowledge." 112 And the wizards came to Pharaoh, saying: Surely there will be a reward for us if we are victors. 113 He said, 'Yes, indeed; and you shall be among the near-stationed.' 114 They said: O Musa! will you cast, or shall we be the first to cast? 115 He said, "You throw [first]!" When they made their cast, they bewitched the eyes of the people and struck them with awe, for they showed a great [feat of] magic. 116 And we revealed unto Musa: cast down thy rod. And lo! it was swallowing up that which they had feigned. 117 ۞ So, the truth prevailed and what they were doing was annulled; 118 The magicians who were defeated on the spot and were proved to be worthless, 119 And the sorcerers were cast down, bowing themselves. 120 saying: 'We believe in the Lord of the universe, 121 the Lord of Moses and Aaron." 122 The Pharaoh said to the magicians, "You declared your belief in him (Moses) without my permission. This is a plot to throw my people out of their city. But you will soon know. 123 Surely I will cut off your hands and feet on the opposite sides and thereafter I will crucify you all. 124 They answered: "We have (in any case) to go back to our Lord. 125 for thou takest vengeance on us only because we have come to believe in our Sustainer's messages as soon as they came to us. O our Sustainer! Shower us with patience in adversity, and make us die as men who have surrendered themselves unto Thee!" 126
