The chiefs of the people of Fir'aun (Pharaoh) said: "This is indeed a well-versed sorcerer; 109 and said, "He wants to expel you from your land." They asked (others), " what is your opinion in the matter? 110 They said: "Put him and his brother off (for a time), and send callers (men) to the cities to collect (and) - 111 to bring together at the Pharaohs court all the skillful magicians. 112 And the magicians came to Pharaoh and asked, "Shall we have a reward, if we should prevail?" 113 He answered: Yes, and surely ye shall be of those brought near (to me). 114 They said: "O Musa (Moses)! Either you throw (first), or shall we have the (first) throw?" 115 'Throw' he replied. And when they threw, they bewitched the people's eyes and terrified them, and produced great sorcery. 116 And [then] We inspired Moses, "Throw down thy staff!" - and lo! it swallowed up all their deceptions: 117 ۞ So the truth was established, and abolished was what they were doing. 118 Thus they were overcome and made to look abject. 119 And the magicians flung themselves prostrate. 120 Saying: "We believe in the Lord of the Worlds,- 121 the Lord of Moses and Aaron!" 122 Fir'awn said: believed ye in him ere I have given you leave? Verily this is a plot ye have plotted in the city that ye may drive forth the people thereof. So presently ye shall know. 123 I will cut off on opposite sides a hand and a foot, and then crucify you all' 124 They said: verily unto our Lord we are turning. 125 "And you take vengeance on us only because we believed in the Ayat (proofs, evidences, lessons, signs, etc.) of our Lord when they reached us! Our Lord! pour out on us patience, and cause us to die as Muslims." 126
