Some of the Pharaoh's nobles considered him to be no more than a skillful magician 109 "His plan is to get you out of your land: then what is it ye counsel?" 110 They said, 'Put him and his brother off a while, and send among the cities musterers, 111 who shall bring before thee every sorcerer of great knowledge." 112 So there came the sorcerers to Pharaoh: They said, "of course we shall have a (suitable) reward if we win!" 113 He said: Yes, and you shall certainly be of those who are near (to me). 114 They said: O Moses! Either throw (first) or let us be the first throwers? 115 He said: Throw! And when they threw they cast a spell upon the people's eyes, and overawed them, and produced a mighty spell. 116 And We inspired to Moses, "Throw your staff," and at once it devoured what they were falsifying. 117 ۞ So, the truth prevailed and what they were doing was annulled; 118 They were therefore defeated here and they turned back humiliated. 119 And the magicians fell down in prostration [to Allah]. 120 [and] exclaiming: "We have come to believe in the Sustainer of all the worlds, 121 "The Lord of Moses and Aaron." 122 Firon said: Do you believe in Him before I have given you permission? Surely this is a plot which you have secretly devised in this city, that you may turn out of it its people, but you shall know: 123 I shall cut off your hands and feet on the opposite sides, and then crucify you all.' 124 The magicians said, "We will certainly return to Our Lord. 125 Thou takest vengeance upon us only because we have believed in the signs of our Lord when they came to us. Our Lord, pour out upon us patience, and gather us unto Thee surrendering.' 126
