The great ones among Pharaoh's people said: "Verily, this is indeed a sorcerer of great knowledge, 109 "He wants to get you out of your land, so what do you advise?" 110 Others said: 'Put them off a while, he and his brother, and send forth to your cities gatherers 111 to summon every wellversed sorcerer to you' 112 And the sorcerers came unto Pharaoh [and] said: "Verily, we ought to have a great reward if it is we who prevail." 113 'Yes' he answered, 'and you will be among those near' 114 They said, “O Moosa! You may throw first – or shall we be the first to throw?” 115 Said Moses: "Throw ye (first)." So when they threw, they bewitched the eyes of the people, and struck terror into them: for they showed a great (feat of) magic. 116 We inspired Moses to throw his staff, and suddenly it began to swallow-up all that the magicians had (falsely) invented. 117 ۞ whereupon the truth was established, and vain was proved all that they had been doing. 118 Thus they were vanquished there, and they went back abased. 119 And the sorcerers prostrated themselves 120 [and] exclaiming: "We have come to believe in the Sustainer of all the worlds, 121 the Lord of Moses and Aaron.' 122 But Pharaoh said: "You have come to accept belief in Him without my permission! This surely is a plot you have hatched to expel the people from the land. You will soon come to know. 123 Surely I will cut off your hands and feet on the opposite sides and thereafter I will crucify you all. 124 They said, 'Surely unto our Lord we are turning. 125 You would punish us only because we believed in the signs of our Lord when they were shown to us. Our Lord, pour patience upon us, and cause us to die in a state of submission to You." 126
