The Heifer (Al-Baqarah)

286 verses, revealed in Medina after The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen) before The Spoils of War (Al-Anfaal)

In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Alif-Lam-Mim. [These letters are one of the miracles of the Quran and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings]. 1 This is the Book; in it is guidance sure, without doubt, to those who fear Allah; 2 who believe in the unseen, and are steadfast in prayer, and spend out of what We have provided them with; 3 who believe in the Book We have sent down to you (i.e. the Qur'an) and in the Books sent down before you, and firmly believe in the Hereafter. 4 It is they who follow the guidance [which comes from their Sustainer]; and it is they, they who shall attain to a happy state! 5 Those who disbelieve, whether you forewarn them or not, they will not believe. 6 God has sealed their hearts and their ears, and over their eyes there is a covering. They will have a terrible punishment. 7
