The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Alif-Lam-Ra; these are verses of the Book and the bright Qur’an. 1 Soon will the time come when the unbelievers will wish they were Muslims. 2 (Muhammad), leave them alone to eat and enjoy themselves and let their desires deceive them; they will soon know (the Truth). 3 We never destroyed any town without pre-ordaining the fate of its people. 4 No people can hasten on their doom nor can they postpone (it). 5 And they say: O thou unto whom the admonition hath been sent down! verily thou art possessed. 6 "Why bringest thou not angels to us if it be that thou hast the Truth?" 7 We do not send down the angels (in frivolity); and when We do send them down, We do so with Truth; then people are granted no respite. 8 We Ourselves have revealed the Quran and We are its Protectors. 9 And certainly We sent (apostles) before you among the nations of yore. 10 and never yet came an apostle to them without their deriding him. 11 This is how We make the mocking* enter the hearts of the guilty. (* The acts of disbelief.) 12 That they should not believe in the (Message); but the ways of the ancients have passed away. 13 Yet even had We opened to them a gateway to heaven and they had ascended, on and on, up to it, 14 they would have said, "Our eyes are bewildered and we have been affected by magic." 15
