The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ Alif, Lam, Ra. These are the verses of the Book and a clear Qur'an. 1 Again and again will those who disbelieve, wish that they had bowed (to Allah's will) in Islam. 2 (Muhammad), leave them alone to eat and enjoy themselves and let their desires deceive them; they will soon know (the Truth). 3 Never did We destroy a population that had not a term decreed and assigned beforehand. 4 Neither can a people anticipate its term, nor delay it. 5 They say: "O you to whom the Admonition has been revealed, you are surely crazed. 6 "Why bringest thou not angels to us if it be that thou hast the Truth?" 7 [Yet] We never send down angels otherwise than in accordance with the [demands of] truth; and [were the angels to appear now,] lo! they [who reject this divine writ] would have no further respite! 8 We have, without doubt, sent down the Message; and We will assuredly guard it (from corruption). 9 We verily sent (messengers) before thee among the factions of the men of old. 10 And whenever a Messenger came to them, they never failed to mock him. 11 Even so We make a way for it (that is, the Admonition) in the hearts of the culprits (like a hot rod); 12 They believe not therein, and already the example of the ancients hath gone forth. 13 Though We opened to them a gate in heaven, and still they mounted through it, 14 They would only say: "Our eyes have been intoxicated: Nay, we have been bewitched by sorcery." 15
