The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Alif. Lam. Ra. These are verses of the Scripture and a plain Reading. 1 Again and again will those who disbelieve, wish that they had bowed (to Allah's will) in Islam. 2 leave them to eat, and to take their joy, and to be bemused by hope; certainly they will soon know! 3 And never have We destroyed any community [for its wrongdoing] unless a divine writ had [previously] been made known to it; 4 No people can hasten or delay the term already fixed for them. 5 They say: "O thou to whom the Message is being revealed! truly thou art mad (or possessed)! 6 "Why do you not bring angels to us if you are of the truthful ones?" 7 We do not send down the angels (in frivolity); and when We do send them down, We do so with Truth; then people are granted no respite. 8 It is We who have sent down the Reminder and We will, most surely, safeguard it. 9 And We had certainly sent [messengers] before you, [O Muhammad], among the sects of the former peoples. 10 and never yet came an apostle to them without their deriding him. 11 even so We cause it to enter into the hearts of the sinners -- 12 They will not believe in it, while there has already occurred the precedent of the former peoples. 13 If We were even to open for them a way to the heavens, and they could continually climb up to it in broad daylight, 14 they would have said, "Our eyes are bewildered and we have been affected by magic." 15
