The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ Alif-Lam-Ra. [These letters are one of the miracles of the Quran, and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings]. These are the Verses of the Book, and a plain Quran. 1 Again and again will those who disbelieve, wish that they had bowed (to Allah's will) in Islam. 2 (Muhammad), leave them alone to eat and enjoy themselves and let their desires deceive them; they will soon know (the Truth). 3 And We destroyed no township but there was a known decree for it. 4 Every nation can only live for the time appointed for it. 5 And they said, “O you upon whom the Qur’an has been sent, you are indeed insane.” 6 Why bringest thou not angels unto us if thou art of the truthtellers! 7 We do not send the angels but with truth, and then they would not be respited. 8 Lo! We, even We, reveal the Reminder, and lo! We verily are its Guardian. 9 (O Muhammad), certainly We did send Messengers before you among the nations which have gone by. 10 And whenever a Messenger came to them, they never failed to mock him. 11 We place in the hearts of sinners (disbelief). 12 who do not believe in it, although the way which those [evildoers] of olden times had to go has long been within their ken. 13 Had We opened a door for them in the sky through which they could easily pass, 14 They would only say: "Our eyes have been intoxicated: Nay, we have been bewitched by sorcery." 15
