The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Alif-Lam-Ra; these are verses of the Book and the bright Qur’an. 1 The unbelievers would haply like to wish that they had submitted (and become Muslim). 2 (Muhammad), leave them alone to eat and enjoy themselves and let their desires deceive them; they will soon know (the Truth). 3 And We destroyed no township but there was a known decree for it. 4 Neither can a people anticipate its term, nor delay it. 5 And they say, "O you upon whom the message has been sent down, indeed you are mad. 6 Why do you not bring to us the angels if you are of the truthful ones? 7 We do not send down angels without reason, and if the angels descend they would not get any respite! 8 It is We who have sent down the Reminder and We will, most surely, safeguard it. 9 We sent messengers before you to the previous peoples, 10 No Messenger went to them whom they did not mock. 11 Thus do We make it traverse the hearts of the guilty: 12 That they should not believe in the (Message); but the ways of the ancients have passed away. 13 And [even] if We opened to them a gate from the heaven and they continued therein to ascend, 14 they would have said, "Our eyes are bewildered and we have been affected by magic." 15
