Man We fashioned from fermented clay dried tingling hard, 26 And the jinn, We had created them afore of the fire of the scroching wind. 27 Your Lord said to the angels, "I am about to bring into being a man wrought from mud. 28 So, when I have made him and have breathed into him of My Spirit, do ye fall down, prostrating yourselves unto him. 29 Therefore all the angels, each and every one of them, fell prostrate. 30 Save Iblis. He refused to be among the prostrate. 31 Said He, 'What ails thee, Iblis, that thou art not among those bowing?' 32 He said: I am not such that I should make obeisance to a mortal whom Thou hast created of the essence of black mud fashioned in shape. 33 (Allah) said: "Then, get out from here, for verily, you are Rajim (an outcast or a cursed one)." [Tafsir At-Tabari] 34 Upon thee shall rest the curse, till the Day of Doom.' 35 He said: My Lord! Reprieve me till the day when they are raised. 36 Said Allah, “You are of those given respite.” 37 Till the Day of appointed time. 38 He said: My Lord! Because Thou hast sent me astray, I verily shall adorn the path of error for them in the earth, and shall mislead them every one, 39 “Except those among them who are Your chosen bondmen.” 40 He said: This is a right way with Me: 41 Surely, you shall have no power over My true servants, except those misguided ones who choose to follow you. 42 And lo! for all such, hell will be the promised place. 43 There are seven gates in it, and to each gate a portion of them has been allotted. 44
