AND, INDEED, We have created man out of sounding clay, out of dark-slime transmuted 26 and before him We created the jinn from smokeless fire. 27 And [mention, O Muhammad], when your Lord said to the angels, "I will create a human being out of clay from an altered black mud. 28 "So, when I have fashioned him completely and breathed into him (Adam) the soul which I created for him, then fall (you) down prostrating yourselves unto him." 29 So the angels prostrated - all of them entirely, 30 Save Iblis. He refused to be among the prostrate. 31 (Allah) said: "O Iblis (Satan)! What is your reason for not being among the prostrators?" 32 [Iblis] replied: "It is not for me to prostrate myself before mortal man whom Thou hast created out of sounding clay, out of dark slime transmuted!" 33 Said He: "Go forth, then, from this [angelic state]: for, behold, thou art [henceforth] accursed, 34 A curse shall be on you till the Day of Recompense' 35 Satan said, "O my Lord! Grant me respite till the Day of Resurrection." 36 He said: So surely you are of the respited ones 37 till that Appointed Day." 38 "O my Lord," he said, "since You have led me into error I'll beguile them with the pleasures of the world and lead them astray, 39 But not such of them as are Thy bondmen single-hearted. 40 Said Allah, “This path* leads straight towards Me.” (* The path of the chosen bondmen.) 41 “Indeed you do not have any power over My bondmen, except those wanderers who follow you.” (The devil is unsuccessful in tempting Allah’s chosen bondmen to commit sin.) 42 And verily Hell is the place promised unto them all. 43 it has seven gates: and each gate has a portion of them allotted to it. 44
